Each Friday I'll be running two half-hour groups with our school's OT. They are each with students from a severe disability classroom- lower cognitive abilities, some with physical handicaps, autism, a few nonverbal.
One group will be with the lower functioning kids of the class and the other with the kids with a bit higher skills. We have access to a "life skills" room (bed, kitchen, washer/dryer, etc).
I don't really have any experience leading these kinds of groups (or with an OT). I was told in the past they've done things like follow recipes to cook something. Any other ideas how to incorporate speech/language/OT into group activities for these kids?
The OT mentioned they have an upcoming fieldtrip to a farm to go horseback riding so suggested we do something with horses, but I'm not quite sure yet what sort of activity to plan. I would be grateful to hear others suggestions while I try to think of my own!
