I have a 6th grade kid that is SLD. He is pulled for language therapy for once a week for 30 minutes. He's struggling in all areas of academics and would benefit from staying in class for instruction, rather than be pulled out for services.
My question is, HOW do I justify putting him on monitored status when he hasn't met all language goals? By the way, I have spoken to parent and they are in agreement with the recommendation. I just am trying to cover all bases when it comes to the paperwork.
What should I put in the IEP?
Thanks

Do the goals you are targeting require the specialized services of an SLP or can they be addressed by another staff member?
Could you provide inclusion services instead of dropping him to consult/monitor? Could you reduce his time to 2x/6 Weeks?
Could you change his pull out time to something like an elective?

He is already receiving academic services 5 times a week from an ESE teacher for 2 classes. So, he basically has inclusion services already. That is why he would be better off being put on monitor. He has the academic support and the benefit of focusing on content from class vs. general vocab/goals in the resource room.
And because of scheduling, I am unable to see him during his elective time.

It really just sounds like he needs to be dismissed. This is assuming he was referred early and not until 5th grade, or something.
