Visualizing and Verbalizing--Pros and Cons?
lamill13 wrote in speechpathology
Hello SLPs!
I am currently in grad school and have a client who ten years old and who has autism. He is working on multiple goals such as:
increasing MLU, increasing comprehension of "wh" questions, inferencing, cause and effect and sequencing.

I am wondering if anybody has used Visualizing and Verbalizing with clients who have similar goals?

If so, what are your thoughts about it? Any pros/cons? Does this program work well with children who have autism??

Any suggestions would be helpful!

Thanks so much,
Lindsay

I'm not an SLP yet (I'm currently applying to grad school), but right now I work at a center that uses Visualizing and Verbalizing. I see a lot of students with autism, and many of them benefit from VV. It's great for increasing comprehension of written and spoken language, and also great for helping student learn how to make inferences, draw conclusions, and access higher order thinking (including cause & effect). I would definitely recommend it if you or someone at that place you work is trained in it.
