Autism Training Post Graduatation

Hello all,

I was wondering what type of training is available for working with individuals with autism after graduation with my MS.  I really want to become involved with this population.  I have located information on Module 1 for ABA training.  However, I am not sure what else is out there and what best compliments my role as an SLP.  Perhaps someone can offer some perspective.  Thank you.

I highly suggest looking into attending any trainings by Michelle Garcia Winner, Carol Gray, Amy Wetherby, Barry Prizant, Emily Rubin, Amy Laurent, or trainings on the SCERTS framework.

I was trained with a strong foundation in ABA. ABA will provide you information in behavior, which definitely has its benefits and it's place. However, when it comes to ASD, I have found that the philosophies by the aforementioned SLPs (and one OT) have completely improved my understanding of the neurology of autism and in turn changed my attitude towards how I interact with these students. After working with students with ASD all along the spectrum (almost exclusively) for about a decade, that is what I suggest.

I've personally done the PECS training. I thought it was great and gave me some great ideams. There's also the SCERTS program, which I have heard good things about.

Hi, Follow the link and the sub posts on 'certification in ASD'. Best wishes !
