Cfy and CCC

Hi Guys,

How long does it take to get my CCCs after I send out all the paperwork.I started getting my hours around September. I am really debating about working in the summer to pay off my loans...however I want to get my CCCs by then...hence the question..

Also Is their a listing somewhere..where I can just fill up my resume and post it...that way anybody who is looking to hire somebody in the summer can just contact me...instead of me looking for the job..

Now my CFY is in the schools. What if I decide to work for a nursing home? How can I prepare for that..I really have forgotten what to do when working with the elderly?

Let's see...It takes a good month - two months to get your CCCs officially. I sent my paperwork in middle of May, received the letter in late June/Early July. That's been a few years, but I don't see it changing. I have friends who just did it last year, and it took a couple months (but they were in Canada).

As far as the job search...I don't know of anything like that. There's LinkedIn, and several other places like Pediastaff and Advance, have job posting...but no matter how needed we are - jobs aren't going to find you - you still have to look for them.

Can you work somewhere else
while the CCC paperwork is being processed?

Sher

It depends on your state. Not every state requires CCCs in order to get licensure/certification. For a state that does - probably not although you might be able to argue that it's being processed.

For the states that don't require it, you'd just have to have your license/certification and then you can.

Many people confuse CCCs with license - and they are NOT the same thing. While some states require SLPs to have CCCs in order to be licensed - they still have to have a license. I don't know of any state that requires only CCCs. Looking here http://www.asha.org/advocacy/state/ might be helpful.

I guess the question is if I don't have my CCCs because it's process I will need supervision and does that supervisor still turn in hours and their ratings..It's kinda silly if I'm thinking of working only for two months and they have to do all that paperwork.

Once you submit your supervisors ratings/hours for your ASHA CCCs, they're done. You don't need to keep submitting them for ASHA.

Some states require a CFY for your state licensure - if the state you're working in requires it (you get a temporary license for that first year), then it would be up to the state rules. But you would submit them to the state not to ASHA.

That makes sense...thank you! I'm going to check those links..and see what's available for the summer.

You can attend continuing education courses if you decide you want to work in a different setting.

If you work in the summer, you will still have to be supervised, unless you have your full state license (and your state doesn't require you to have your CCCs to practice). It took about a month or so to get my full license and CCCs.

There is not a listing such as that that I am aware of. If you post your resume on ASHA or your state SHA website, you'll likely get phonecalls/letters from contract companies (EBS, 360 Therapy, etc.), but you won't get anything from a specific, direct hire location. It's your responsibility to find a job if you want to work at a specific location as a direct hire SLP.
